Last week was my mom’s birthday and so of course I took the opportunity to play around in the kitchen and make another cake! I wasn’t lying in my earlier post, I really am slightly obsessed with cake decorating. My mom, on the other hand, is slightly obsessed with donuts and there came the inspiration for this fun and easy cake. I used a standard bundt pan to achieve the general shape of the donut, iced the whole thing in light brown buttercream and topped it off with a little bit of pink fondant to resmeble the icing. The sprinkles are, I think, what ties the whole thing together. Overall, it was a very easy-to-do cake that ended up being a crowd-pleaser.
Here is a quick little floral arrangement I threw together last weekend to try to make the house look nice for some guests who were stopping by. The wooden box, which is fitted with floral foam, that is acting as the vase was from a centerpiece at a wedding I recently went to and I have been refilling it with fresh flowers ever since. The roses, on the other hand, may or may not have been “collected” from my various neighbors’ front yards, including my own. Shhhhh!
Yesterday my parents celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary and so I decided that I wanted to make them a cute little cake (it’s only 4 inches in diameter). Within the past year, I have become slightly obsessed with TLC’s Cake Boss and all its various spin-offs. I was also a diehard Ace of Cakes fan back in the day. I can sit and watch those shows for hours. I love them so much that back in March I actually signed up for Wilton’s beginner cake decorating class at my local Michaels craft store. The class introduced me to basic buttercream techniques but this was my first attempt at using fondant, which ended up being very easy to use and looks so nice and clean. Dear friends and family, you can now expect fabulous cakes from me for all future birthdays and holidays.
