Hi everyone! Hope you are all having a great summer. I’m back with another cake post, this time for my dear old mom’s birthday. This year’s inspiration comes from my mom’s slight addiction to Diet Coke, and while I’m not saying I condone her obsession (I have been trying to get her to lay off that stuff for years) I had to admit that it would make a pretty awesome cake. I started off by pouring melted dark chocolate into an empty Coke bottle, using it as a mold to create the exterior shell. Once the chocolate hardened, I peeled away the plastic bottle and filled the chocolate shell with layers of Coke flavored cake and frosting. Reapplying the label and bottle cap were the perfect finishing touches to this deceivingly delicious cake.
Hello everyone and happy October! I’m back at it with another cake post, this time for my Grandma’s big 8-0. I wanted this cake to be different from any of my previous cakes so I took a more traditional approach. I learned a new quilting technique which turned out to be super easy to do and looks so beautiful and understated. I also made the cake topper myself after being inspired by similar designs I had seen online. I was pleasantly surprised by the finished product and my Grandma loved it too 🙂
Hello there everyone! Long time no post. I apologize. Life has been keeping me pretty busy, but not busy enough to pass up an opportunity to make another fun birthday cake. Today is my super cute neighbor’s 7th b-day and so I decided to surprise her with a cute Hello Kitty cake. It was super simple to make and I even learned how to make a fondant bow! Happy Birthday Emily!
Ok guys, I promise this will be my last cake post for a while. What can I say? I’m obsessed. This week we celebrated my dad’s birthday and in brainstorming ideas for his cake, I decided to create a 7-Eleven Big Gulp. My dad has a very strange diet, with his favorite “meal” probably consisting of a large fountain soda and a Powerbar. That being said, he loved the cake and I have to say, I think it came out pretty cute as well!
Last week was my mom’s birthday and so of course I took the opportunity to play around in the kitchen and make another cake! I wasn’t lying in my earlier post, I really am slightly obsessed with cake decorating. My mom, on the other hand, is slightly obsessed with donuts and there came the inspiration for this fun and easy cake. I used a standard bundt pan to achieve the general shape of the donut, iced the whole thing in light brown buttercream and topped it off with a little bit of pink fondant to resmeble the icing. The sprinkles are, I think, what ties the whole thing together. Overall, it was a very easy-to-do cake that ended up being a crowd-pleaser.
